📄 About E-Filing and State Variations
Most U.S. states now offer some level of e-filing for court documents, making Pro Se divorce more accessible. Here are a few highlights:

Widespread adoption: Most states have some form of e-filing capability, and many are transitioning towards making it more accessible to those without lawyers.

Texas example: Texas, for instance, has embraced e-filing for self-represented individuals through the eFileTexas.gov website. This will allow us, Garza & Garza to file your original petition of divorce online. Just a reminder. Each county as their own separate Court Fees ranging from $175 - $350. This fee is paid directly to the district court.

Varying levels of availability: While some states allow e-filing for pro se divorce cases, others may have limitations or require physical filing for certain types of divorce actions or in specific courts. For example, in Texas, pro se litigants generally have the option to e-file, but it might not be mandatory.

Potential limitations: Some states, like Idaho, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and New Mexico, use e-filing systems like Odyssey but haven't yet extended it to people filing for divorce without legal representation. In Michigan, some counties allow e-filing for ongoing pro se divorce cases, but not for initiating new ones. Hawaii and Virginia use the Judiciary Electronic Filing and Service System (JEFS), but currently don't allow pro se divorce e-filing. In such cases, we will send you ALL the required paperwork, email you the pdf documents give you detailed instruction on what pages and where to sign and where your spouse to sign. You will then simply hand deliver to the court to get it Date Stamped and an assigned cause number. No worries, we will guide you step-by-step until your divorce is finalized.

Court filing fees are not included in our service fee and vary by county. On average, court fees are around $350, which you may pay separately if you'd like me to handle the eFiling and secure your official cause number.
